Community Settlements (USUV)
Community Settlements are areas of the server that are officially operated by server staff. Opposed to settlements that are run by players, staff permission is typically required before building (with the exception of free-build zones), and rollbacks of natural damage or griefing are frequent due to the importance and high-traffic nature of these areas. Community Settlements collectively hold one seat in USUV meetings and votes, acting as one member rather than seven.
History
The server's first community settlement was created around the server's original spawn point, and was not as well-developed as later spawns, instead featuring a small portal build and sporadic bases. Aurora (originally Vanilla City) became the server's first true settlement, evolving into a sprawling shopping district over time. Later, Old Spawn was established, featuring a more town-like and welcoming vibe.
For the 1.16 update, New Spawn was placed two million blocks away from Old Spawn in each axis, bringing two new community settlements. The new spawn itself is larger and grander than previously, with a prismarine and brick theme. Borealis replaced Aurora as the new official shopping districts, mostly copying the layout of its predecessor, and Polaris was a free-build zone declared immediately north of New Spawn.
For 1.18, The Outpost was created, offering easy access to new Caves and Cliffs generation and adjusted server rules loosening requirements on building proximity and permissions, gradually transitioning to the normal rules further from its origin point.
