UVDOT

From UltraVanilla

UVDOT is a small group focused around transit infrastructure around the server, more specifically roads and highways. UVDOT is also closely aligned with Seacrestica Transports, the OPC, and the USUV, even trying to get funding from the latter.

UVDOT is following the footsteps of existing/defunct groups, plans, and infrastructure, most importantly the Outpost Regional Roadways plan, originally created by MrByzantine, and the Western Metropolitan Area's massive existing transit network.

UVDOT's main goal is two-fold:

  • Make it easier to get around the server, by rail, road, nether, or whatever is most convenient,
  • And make a national highway system of sorts, meaning most the settlements in the major metro regions in the Overworld are connected by roadways.

Even if these goals take years, or dont even get finished at all, at least we know we did something to help.

Special Roadways

The Voyaway (UV-VY)

Check out The Voyager more more info.

The Voyaway is a roadway planned to span the 180 kilometer long distance between New Spawn and Outpost, each end located in Darkshire and Tegridy respectively. The road takes roughly the same route as the Voyager II Bell Tour, hence the name, The Voyaway.

Many people have asked about a possible road between Outpost and Old Spawn, and its a difinitive no. Nobody on this server is crazy enough to attempt to make a nearly 3 million block long road... unless?

USUV HQ

A route going into the tunnel between the New Spawn warp and the USUV HQ. It was mentioned in the UVDOT Forum post multiple times, and was eventually brought up in USUV Meeting 75. The tunnel has been officially designated as a roadway, but no signs will be placed.

Regional Roadways

Regional roadways are roadways meant to act as highways within their respective region, connecting towns and sub-regions together.

Outpost

The roadways for the Outpost region were already planned out far in advance of UVDOT creation, they just were never built. UVDOT took the plans over and expanded on them slightly, incorporating The Voyaway into the plans as well.

Roadside Builds

Roadway Signage

Every roughly 50 blocks, or 0.05 Kilometers, there is a marker sign telling you what road you're on and how far from the nearest major metro area; either New Spawn, Old Spawn, Outpost, or Rendez-vous Point. For The Voyaway specifically, the markers are instead every 500 blocks, and point to New Spawn and Old Spawn instead.

Gas Stations

Every 1.5-5 Kilometers, a gas station, or XP pump, is built. Each gas station has at least 2 XP pumps, where for a diamond you can buy 8 bottles of XP for your elytra, tools, etc.

There are multiple designs for these gas stations, each focused around a different company, pun, or reference about the region.

Below is a list of all of the currently built gas stations.

Other Infrastructure

While UVDOT's main focus is roadways, the group is intending to help with rail and iceway infrastructure.

UVDOT Transit Router

Forking from the UV website, the UVDOT Transit Router was meant to help with transitioning to the roads and helping people get around using them.

The transit router is located here; and if you have the technical know-how to compile the development version, that is located here.

Seacrestica Transports helped with development a lot, allowing UVDOT to fork their display engine. It is currently undergoing a massive rewrite to help keep the code a bit more manageable, but its been slow going.

Freedom City Metro Station

See Freedom City's early history for more info.

After the disaster that was the 2023 Alliance City New Years event[1], a large portion of the center city was destroyed, including the first building in the city, the transit center. UVDOT is in the process of bringing the structure back to a working station, and after a poll was held it was decided to rebuild the transit station, but in a ruined state.

Map Arts

There are unfinished map arts for both The Voyaway and Outpost road signs at this location, around 4 Kilometers west of Illyria

Rendez-vous Point

See Rendez-vous Point for more info

Rendez-vous Point is a proposed town roughly half way between the New Spawn and Outpost regions, with the specific location in this general area up for a poll eventually, meant only as a resupply point for people going down The Voyaway and UVDOT workers keeping the road maintained. There are no plans for anything else in the area other than a villager hall, a few farms, and maybe a bar if theres time.

History

Before UV

UVDOT was originally created on another server under a different name, the Final Republic Transportation Authority, or the FRTA for short. The FRTA system spanned 11 towns on around 60 Kilometers of road, and 9 stations on 4 different metro lines. The server closed down around 6 months into construction, so the full plan was never completed like it was intended, but a lot of the same concepts and lessons from the FRTA were brought over to UVDOT, so the same issues with the trains and highways don't occur again. The concept of road signs was never completed originally, but its already started in UV; as well as a fully functioning minecart metro system, which was never fully implemented due to minecarts being buggy, and a plugin that was supposed to make them better actually made them harder to work with.

The Founding of UVDOT

Around 2 months after Blurple joined UV, a post was made to the UV Forums containing a document that outlined a large portion of the plans that UVDOT are currently working on. The document in question is still available here.

The plan was met with some skepticism, but overall people were on-board with it, so work began.

The First Roads

After a week or so, the roads in Central and Central-Western Outpost were marked with signs, and work started on getting UV-OP-1 down to Malus and UV-OP-2 to Eden. The roadway at Malus was stopped construction due to little-to-no communication with the leaders of Malus, and the route to Eden was taken back over by MrByzantine, the original creator of the Outpost Regional Roadways plan.

The next priority became New Spawn, specifically UV-NS-4, UV-NS-1, and their connecting roads, brought on by pixelviolin aiming to connect Eventide to the rest of New Spawn through Æopa and UV-NS-1. This roadway is almost complete, and as of writing this UV-NS-4 will be connecting to Æopa soon.
